Donations / Offerings  - Archived

When beginning this ministry, the Holy Spirit led us specifically to not form a 501(c)3.

The reason He stated was: freedom. Freedom to conduct ministry in the way the He leads/tells us, without the restrictions that come as a result of having a non-taxable status.

A Day of PRAYER LLC wants to say what He (the Lord) tells us to say, and do what He tells us to do, without limitations/stipulations. Only influenced by the Word/voice of the Holy Spirit.

We do not want to avoid paying taxes if taxes are owed.

Jesus, as our example and pattern to follow, instructed those around Him concerning taxes; to pay taxes as required.

Mark 12:13-17 (NASB)
13  Then they *sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Him in order to trap Him in a statement.
14  They *came and *said to Him, "Teacher, we know that You are truthful and defer to no one; for You are not partial to any, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?
15  "Shall we pay or shall we not pay?" But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, "Why are you testing Me? Bring Me a denarius to look at."
16  They brought one. And He *said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" And they said to Him, "Caesar's."
17  And Jesus said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were amazed at Him.

Jesus, taught His disciples this principle to live by. A principle which also resonated, was followed, and taught by the Apostle Paul; in his letters to the church.

Romans 13:1-7 (NASB)
1  Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.
2  Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.
3  For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same;
4  for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.
5  Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience' sake.
6  For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing.
7  Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

[Clearly the Lord is not talking about following or obeying laws that are against the Lord. E.g. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego (Daniel 3) and countless others that refused to violate the Heavenly Father by doing such things that He has said are wrong or an abomination. We are not to partake in or be a part of such things.]

Romans 13:11-14 (NASB)
11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.
12  The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
13  Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.
14  But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.

This is how the Lord Jesus Christ thought about taxes, and this is how we are to think concerning taxes.

Without paying taxes, we have no voice and are relegated to the same status or place of someone who is not considered a citizen. Those not considered citizens, have little to no right(s) or power to influence the day to day governmental (e.g. City, State, and Federal) authorities.

As it pertains to the Body of Christ (The Church); this relegates us to a bystander status. We get to watch from the outside looking in; however, the collective voice is mitigated due to our actions. The actions (Avoiding paying taxes) are perceived by those who are not yet Believers, as robbing from society; not investing in the welfare of the people or the communities we (Christians or Believers) live, work, and pass through in real / tangible ways (Jeremiah 29:7; James 2:14-17).
